This course offers students an opportunity to study information management specialising in issues in health and health care contexts. A health-focused module and a dissertation (for students working towards the masters award) combine with core modules to provide a detailed understanding of how health and health care work are being transformed by innovative uses of information, knowledge and technologies.
Professional accreditation
All of our library and information courses are accredited by CILIP, the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals. Bursaries are available for students working in the NHS who register for the professional award.
Course structure
The modules are delivered in intensive mode. This involves the following stages: pre-attendance work; attendance period of 3/5 consecutive days; independent study and post-attendance work. All students have access to our electronic learning environment, studentcentral, where they are able to download course materials and communicate with lecturers and fellow students. This mode of delivery particularly suits part-time students who have work commitments and may not live in the Brighton area. Details of approved hotel accommodation in Brighton are provided when students enrol on the course.
Areas of study
The syllabus reflects the latest developments in the world of information work and allows students to choose from a range of modules appropriate to their continuing professional development needs. All modules are worth 20 credits with the exception of the final project/dissertation which is worth 60 credits. The following numbers of credits are required to achieve the awards below:

This course is primarily aimed at experienced information professionals wishing to update their knowledge and skills, and to apply the skills to the concerns of the health sector and health care. Opportunities exist for well qualified informational professionals in a whole range of health-focused information work and previous graduates and current students work in health libraries, information analysis and practice management in primary care.
